In New Zealand my birthday always feel in the dead of winter. This year the plan was to have a summer birthday celebration, a tea party with nibbles outside in the sunshine. BUT this is Scotland, and I keep forgetting that the weather does it's own thing. So we had it indoors but we tried to keep the garden party theme by surrounding ourselves with pot plants and cranking up the central heating to make it possible to dress lightly! Steve impressed us all by preparing all the amazing finger food, there were cucumber sandwiches, packlava, date and walnut scones, ginger slice, custard tarts, humus, and he baked a ginger & lemon cheesecake with kiwifruit topping! Mmmmm
Thanks to all who came dispite the weather!

Summer beats
On the evening of my birthday the Samba band I'm in played at an International Language School Break-up. It was great fun and we got to join in the ceilidh dancing and food afterwards. Unfortunatly I can't load a video for you but look at this pic of us and imagine the awesome spectical of 28 percussionists grooving to a Brazilian dance beat!

Steve having prepared party food reminds me of a certain beef vindaloo cake that was entered in a cake competition long ago. I loved it but some boring chocolate one beat it.
